Chasing Dreams and Pwning Legends
Ever since I saw the first Premier League it was an event I always wanted to play in. It was such a rollercoaster for me and the first time I have ever played an event I wanted to win so badly.
Things didn’t start too well. I turned up late to the airport late and after some lively discussions with the airport staff I wasn’t allowed on the plane. I know it’s been made out that I had a huge tilt off and caused a scene at the terminal but it wasn’t so bad. The flights cost me more than 10k and I was a donk for not getting there on time and yes I was angry – I’m an emotional guy and it’s something I’m trying to work on.
I always believe in myself at the poker table and really felt that I was a huge favourite going into the Premier League. My game was so far above the rim and I ran so many sick bluffs during the event that I really deserved to win but I guess I have to be happy with both my performance and the result. I’ll talk more about some key hands from the league over the coming weeks – they really are too sick. As far as my opponents go I had some good battles with JC Tran, Negreanu and David Benyamine – there was lots of pressure amongst the players and it was funny to see Hellmuth, Negreanu, Tony G and Roland really under the cosh.
I feel as though I have learnt a lot about poker and life over the last week. Before the event I was asked to give my opinions on the players in the league and perhaps I was a little disrespectful in my comments. I’m not saying that I rate them all as players but so many people surprised me. Like Phil Hellmuth... I always felt the guy was a total dick but he is just a total g – such a cool guy. I also have massive respect for David Benyamine too even though I blew up at him in the last heat.
So 2010 has got off to a good start for me and long may it continue. I learnt so much last Year and hope that I can use the experience I gained next time I run up my roll. For now it’s back to the grind and keeping owning these TV tournaments.
