Last week saw the third edition of the PartyPoker Women's World Open which has fast become one of my favourite weeks in the poker diary. The event has been criticized in the past, many felt that an all women's tournament was bad for the game. They couldn't be more wrong.

This tournament gives some of the games most underrated talents the chance to express themselves and play in front of a global audience. The atmosphere is always so refreshing and one particular hand showcased the spirit of the tournament more than any other.

In the second heat, Kelly Jackson (Action Jack's daughter) made a raise to 60k with AsQc and Caroline Cove (the female Luke Schwartz) re raised to 160k with AsAh. Kelly had about 220 behind and made the call and turned her hand over thinking she was all in...Caroline's natural reaction was to also turn her cards over and then they realised they had chips behind. It was an honest mistake and although the ruling was that Kelly Jackson could not bet she could only call, Caroline made the announcement that she would check it down all the way. Even though she was a huge favourite is was a massive pot in the context of the game.. when the flop came 7c3c10s a runner-runner bad beat felt unlikely... turn 8c... surely not... 5c... Bang there it was! Caroline took it on the chin and actually came back to win the heat. It was a nice moment and I wondered how many times you would see a gesture like that on the everyday poker circuit.

There are so many talented female players out there that are just not getting the chance to express themselves. Online sites sling hundreds of thousands at players that wouldn't give them half the exposure of some of these ladies and may only have half the talent. What about Maria Demetriou, Kelly Jackson, Caroline Cove? The list is endless. We need to give these players a chance to flourish. I will be personally sending emails to poker rooms this week to try and get them to back and support players like this – they don't need a fortune, just a chance.

Preparation is now under for the 4th season of the PartyPoker.com Big Game that will this Year be filmed at the Les A club in Mayfair. Les A has quickly become the home of high stakes poker in London and we are looking forward to working with Craig and his team once again. Evictions and musical walk-ons are just two of the exciting changes made to this season – it's going to be a whole lot of fun. Les A will be holding qualifiers when the game starts at 8pm on the 11th April. It's got to be one of the hottest poker seats in town – I'll certainly be having a crack!
