MATCHROOM SPORT ... THE WORLD'S LEADING PRODUCERS OF TELEVISED POKER

Matchroom Sport wins Poker Innovation Award - 15/02/2010

Matchroom Sport’s Poker team scooped the Rob Gardner Award for Innovation at the 2009 European Poker Awards, held at the Aviation Club in Paris on February 12.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have won the award for innovation at the European Poker Awards,” said Matchroom Sport's Managing Director Eddie Hearn. “The news broke as we began the first heat of the PartyPoker.com Premier League Poker IV here in Las Vegas and it gave the team a real lift. We always feel we have a responsibility to grow the game and our innovative formats coveted with our global distribution will hopefully help the game go from strength to strength.”

Tony G was also up for the award and was full of praise for Matchroom Sport: “If anyone was going to beat me to this award then it deserves to be Eddie and his team at Matchroom. They produce the best poker shows in the World and are always trying to raise the bar. The PartyPoker.com Premier League is my favourite tournament in poker and is seen by more countries than any other show in the world.”

Last year Matchroom Sport broke new ground with several exciting new formats in televised poker. The Full Tilt Durrrr Million Dollar Challenge saw internet superstar Tom “Durrrr” Dwan take on three heads-up opponents in London, while the fifth edition of the PartyPoker.com World Open was a revelation with a new triple-stack format.

The PKR Heads-Up Grand Slam was another new edition to the calendar in 2009, with 32 of the best players in the world battling it out one-on-one to take the inaugural crown. February sees the fourth edition of the PartyPoker.com Premier League Poker being staged in Las Vegas for the first time. Poker Million saw a new sponsor in Full Tilt Poker and its strongest ever line-up while the world’s sporting elite gathered to take part in the PartyPoker.com Sports Stars Challenge. Off the screen, the Boylepoker.com Poker Show with Jesse May and Padraig Parkinson became the first ever live online radio show and was an instant hit with the community.

The PartyPoker.com Premier League Poker IV is taking place at the M Resort Spa Casino in Las Vegas – visit MatchroomPoker.com for the latest news.
