PartyPoker.com World Open VI begins on Monday - 05/09/2010

WPT winner Jake Cody could be the man to watch in London again

The PartyPoker.com World Open VI begins on Monday afternoon (September 6) at the Palm Beach Casino in Mayfair, London.

The winner of the tournament will walk away with $200,000 from the $480,000 prize pool, with the impressive line-up buying in for $10,000 for the chance to challenge Phil Laak for the crown he won last year.

Laak returns to defend that title but the man to watch must surely be Jake Cody, fresh from his victory at the WPT London Poker Classic Main Event this weekend in the same venue.

PartyPoker pro and commentator Mike Sexton – who is also in the line-up for the event – said: “Jake Cody is an outstanding young player and mark my words when you see this action on television this final table is something very special. I rate it is amongst the best poker I have seen in nine years commentating for the WPT.”

Sexton’s fellow PartyPoker pro Giovanni Safina was the chip leader at the WPT London final table and he hopes to continue his remarkable rise in the poker world in the five day tournament with six eight-handed heats and a runners-up heat leading to a seven-handed final table on Friday.

Stand out names in the field see Neil Channing, Marty Smyth, Ian Frazer and James Akenhead take part in heat one while James Mitchell, Huck Seed and Josh Gould go in heat two. Heat three promises to be special with Luke “Full Flush” Schwartz taking on Big Game star David “Viffer” Peat, Annette Obrestad, John Duthie, Liam Flood and Safina. Cody faces Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Praz Bansi in heat four before defending champion Laak meets Roland De Wolfe, Toby Lewis and John Tabatabai in the fifth heat. The sixth heat closes the opening stages in style, with Sexton included in the line-up against Dave “Devilfish” Ulliot, Juha Helppi, Sorel Mizzi, Bruno Fitoussi and Jennifer Tilly.

Spectators are encouraged to come and watch the action at the Palm Beach Casino, and you can also follow the action online here: http://www.partypoker.com/blog/featured/world-open-vi-live-blog-updates.html
