Sam Trickett wins PartyPoker.com World Open IV - 13/09/2010
24-year-old UK professional Sam Trickett scooped $200,000 and the PartyPoker.com World Open VI title as the event drew to a close at The Palm Beach Casino in London on Friday. On an all star final table, Trickett impressed with a top notch performance that eventually saw him overcome Yevgeniy Timoshenko heads-up to take down first prize.
Trickett, who has made a big impression on the world circuit in 2010 with big cashes at the EPT and WSOP, was relieved to have finally ended up with a title. “To finally win a big tournament is brilliant,” he said. “It is great to hear people saying congratulations rather than commiserations,” said a clearly ecstatic Trickett. “After doubling up very early I felt I was always in control but had a feeling that if I got heads-up it would be against Yevgeniy Timoshenko.” Sam Tricket receives the trophy from Kara Scott
“It has been an amazing year for English poker players, I am glad to have joined the likes of Toby Lewis and Jake Cody in tasting big success,” he added.
One person who was particularly impressed with Trickett was PartyPoker.com Ambassador Mike Sexton, who joined Jesse May and former champion Phil Laak in the commentary box for the final. “To get to the final I didn’t think he could play better poker,” said Mike. “In the final I think he topped his performance in the heat. To put it quite simply he is a remarkable poker player. It was a treat – a superstar is born.”
The final table of the PartyPoker.com World Open VI also featured EPT Vilamoura champion Toby Lewis, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, John Duthie, Dale Hoy, Juha Helppi and Andrew Robl.
