TONY G ROARS INTO WORLD OPEN FINAL - 15/09/2006
Tony G fought back from the depths of despair to take the chip lead going into the final of the 2006 PartyPoker.com World Open. In a high quality heat, Tony G lined up with Harry Demetriou, Darren Bloom, John Magill, Jon Hewston and on-line qualifier Paul Christoffersson. It was a high tempo affair as Tony G came out firing but soon became short stacked. One of the favorites' for the heat was John Magill, who having recently finished 12th in the World Series was brimming with confidence. However, after a slow start John put all his chips in on a flush draw and became the first to bust out. He was shortly followed by Harry Demetriou, another surprise exit as the "wise owl" failed to pick up premium hands. With one more to go the game tightened up and Tony G delivered a stunning bad beat on Darren Bloom when his A 4 took down Bloom's A 7 and gave the remaining three players the all important final table seat. Chip counts going into the final table are : Tony G - 282,000, Paul Christoffersson 218,000 and Jon Hewston 100,000.
